Onshore wind turbine plans approved
Post Date: 09 August 2010
Developers Wind Direct are helping local vehicle sales company Roy Humphrey Group benefit from the supply of renewable energy to its premises and the sale of any excess generation to the local distribution network.
It will also be able to claim that it is offsetting the effects of its fossil-fuel based business.
Suffolk County vowed in 2007 to become the greenest county and has since launched a series of initiatives aimed at backing up the claim including events of carbon reduction and running a greener business.
John Dupre, project manager for Wind Direct said: "We are very appreciative of the support that the local community has shown for the scheme.
"The fact that there were a minimal number of public objections and no objections from statutory consultees such as the RSPB and MOD, confirm our analysis that this is an ideal site for a wind turbine project of this scale."
Carl Humphrey from Roy Humphrey Group Said: "Even though the car industry is regarded as potentially a high carbon emitter, we all have a contribution to make. This not only provides us with the green credentials needed in today's business environment, but makes our business more sustainable as a whole."
Construction at the Eye Airfield Industrial Estate is likely to commence in Spring 2011.
